In today’s society, finding jobs and more importantly, building a long-term career out of them, is something that the vast majority of society struggles with. We all struggle in pursuit of our professional goals. Every person creates their own path towards their goals and each individual journey is unique. However, there are numerous things you could do to help figure out a career that you absolutely love: one of which is taking a job quiz.

Job quizzes are like a Napoli slice of pepperoni-bacon pizza, dripping with oozing cheese. They’re impossible to ignore, come with a lot of delicious toppings, and after consuming, you feel like you need to have another one to “test its validity”. Moreover, the upsides to a job quiz – the toppings, if you will – are alluring enough that it’ll be worth your time to try to understand them. Below is a list of why you should take a job quiz.

1) They could help with overall self-awareness.

Anything that can help you look inwards is a good thing and helps with personal development and growth. Better use of your time than cruising the Internet. A recent article by CNN states that an average Americans has upwards of 10 hours of screen time daily. Why not stop watching the meme of a corgi jumping from a table for just a few minutes and do something that could positively impact your future?

2) Job Quiz could help you understand your own personality traits.

There’s nothing worse than someone that lacks personality. Don’t believe us? Try having a date with an empty shell of a person and then we can talk. Job quizzes could help you narrow down potential careers that match your personality traits. For example, an introverted person taking the test is not likely to be a stand-up comedian. And on the reverse, an extroverted person is not likely to be a freelance writer. Time to help yourself reach your greatest potential.

3) They could help you discover your core values.

This is especially integral for people that are less driven by monetary benefits and more driven by the positive impact they’re making in the world. Your core values help you determine what is right and wrong, what you stand for when things go astray and are central to your core being. In our superficial world where jealousy and envy run rampant over social media, it has never been more important to stay true to your true and good character.

4) They could help you understand your strengths and weaknesses.

An intriguing conversation is discussing doing something you’re passionate about, doing something you’re good at, and doing something you can get paid well to do. Often times, we find ourselves satisfying one, perhaps two, of them, but very rarely all of them. And yet, sometimes the main issue is that we are too focused on just talking about our strengths and weaknesses and not spending enough time focusing on how we can benefit the organizations we work for. Millennials especially struggle with this, and even Forbes says that one of those reasons why they struggle with finding their dream jobs is due to overconfidence and an inward rather than an outward focus.

5) They could help you understand what you like doing as a hobby and how you can make a career out of a hobby.

There are many things each one of us enjoys doing, but not many things we’re able to continue doing without sleep, food, and love. This brings us to the dreaded word – passion – that might carry along some negative connotations with it. As cliché as it sounds, without passion, we have nothing. A World Economic Forum article about the Japanese concept “ikigai” even explains that this particular “reason for being” is at the intersection of four paths: doing what you love, doing what you’re good at, doing what you can be paid for, and most importantly, doing something the world needs.  How can anyone argue with that?

6) They could help you understand how you like to interact with people.

In addition to the point of using a jobs quiz in understanding whether you’re an introvert or extrovert, one might want to delve into their actual definitions. In fact, they’re very much about the gathering of energy. Introverts gather their energy from within themselves and extroverts gather their energy from their external surroundings. That isn’t to say that you cannot have shy extroverts or loud introverts as the so-called third “ambivert” has been named. An artist would not relate to his or her surroundings in the same way a politician would.

7) They could help you understand how you can make the world a better place.

Poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Rampant homelessness. Nuclear bomb threats. Turning on any global news source nowadays can be downright depressing. In fact, in many ways, we have become desensitized to the horrible situations around us. Well, for those looking to make a positive contribution to the world amidst all the chaos, you can look no further than understanding what are the most problematic global issues. After great success with the Millennium Development Goals Project when global poverty was cut to a third from its original 36%, the United Nations in 2015 decided on creating 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the world to reach by the year 2030. These diverse goals range from climate change, to bolster education programs, and to maintain sustainable communities. Perhaps you can take some insight from job quizzes to understand where you can make an individual contribution to these issues for the betterment of future generations.

8) A Job Quiz could help you gain knowledge of all your opportunities.

Whether you’re deciding to work towards a career in your local community or internationally, a jobs quiz can definitely help open your mind to the possibilities out there. The only thing holding you back are the limits you place upon yourself.

9) They could help you come up with careers working in a particular profession or industry.

In today’s technological and digital society and with globalization and urbanization, many future jobs don’t even exist today. In fact,  upwards of 85% of future jobs (i.e. in 2030) don’t exist today. This is a crucial concept to understand the future of jobs. Perhaps what might work for you better is to not think about a career so much as investing in skills like programming languages or competencies in artificial intelligence. Skills trump all. If the jobs of the future are soon to be created, doesn’t it make sense to be prepared for the inevitable and adapt to all the changes?

10) They could help you set goals and provide you with the motivational jumpstart you need to reach those goals.

Perhaps what you need to think about is not so much as building a career, but setting time-sensitive, tangible goals and milestones you can visualize and meet in order to rise to even greater heights. Job quizzes can help you break down what steps are needed in order for you to reach your version of success.

It’s a scary world out there. No one tells you about life’s shark-infested waters you’ll have to face once you graduate university and join the workforce. No one tells you that you’ll be completely on your own perhaps with a minimal support network. Nobody is going to extend a hand out of the ashes when they’re too busy paving their own paths to success.

But there’s hope.

Hope that comes in the form of a jobs quiz. With a job quiz, you will be become self-aware, understand the niche that you want to fill, and outline the steps necessary to achieve your definition of success. No, there’s no guarantee your life will change completely after completing a job quiz, but hey, certainly better than sitting on that couch binge-watching the latest season of Game of Thrones.

At least with a jobs quiz, you narrow down your options and get in the right frame of mind to choose your dream career. Talk about a great slice of Napoli pepperoni pizza. Scrumptious, and it came right in the nick of time.
